From churches and monasteries to mosques, from river valleys to the lake shore, from bars, pubs and hotels to various tourist and museum centers. This is the touristic Pogradec of this year.

The lake and the city of Pogradec, this year welcomes domestic and foreign vacationers with many investments in tourism. Pogradec is the tourist town on the edge of the wonderful Ohrid lake, which for many vacationers is a magical oasis. This “truly Albanian” city – as the great Lasgushi says, “inserted into the mountains like a brain in a human skull”, is beautiful not only by nature (the location near the blue eye of Lake Ohrid), but it is also an ancient city with early cultural and artistic traditions. Pogradec is the city where nature has spared nothing, to achieve perfection, the city where people with their hospitality and openness do not let you leave without taking with you the love and longing to return again.

Walking around Pogradec you can discover it yourself but we are giving you some suggestions:

Parks of Pogradec

Pogradec has long been called the city of flowers and greenery, a tradition that is fanatically preserved even today. You can walk on the “1 Maji” promenade, along the city beach, enjoy the wonderful landscape of the “sleeping liquor”, drink something under the cool shade of the trees and in the evening become part of the traditional Pogradec tour. If you wish, you can visit the tourist point of Drilon, 4 km from the town of Pogradec, with its clean springs and the landscape that amazes you. Pogradec beach is located inside the city along the “1 Maji” promenade. It is a beautiful beach with sand, clear water and opportunities for fun. In Pogradec there are several other private and public beaches, with sand and small pebbles. Outside the impressive city are the crystal clear water beaches of Lin and Tushemishti.

Lini

Lini is a small peninsula on the western shores of Lake Ohrid with a beautiful village of the same name. The houses are built of stone and brick on the sides of narrow alleys covered with pergolas. In the south of Lin, near Buqeza in the lake, at a depth of 2-3 m, there are several stilts. It is a lake-type settlement built on the surface of the lake like that of Maliqi in the district of Korça. There are legends that the Lin peninsula was once a beautiful island with flourishing vegetation.

The old Christian basilica of Linn

Life on the Lin peninsula began in the early Iron Age and continued until the early Middle Ages. During the archaeological research, an early Christian basilica with extraordinary mosaics on the floor from the 4th-5th century AD was discovered. The mosaics have some beautiful figures like fish, birds, etc

Lower Selca

At the end of the Thana Pass when you are going to Tirana, it would be good to turn left and left again to Lower Selca to visit the five monumental tombs. The castle, which is located in a prominent position of the Shkumbin valley, played a first-hand role in the Illyrian-Roman and Illyrian-Macedonian wars. The Egnatia road passes near this castle. What makes this place famous are the five monumental tombs carved into the massive rock of Gradishta. Archaeological research has shown that we are dealing with a developed economic-cultural center of great importance from the 4th-3rd century BC.

Golik bridge

When you turn left from the Qafa e Thanës-Tirana road and follow the village road, you can enjoy the picturesque valley of the Shkumbin river. Near the village of Golik you will find an ancient bridge from the Roman period known as the Golik Bridge. This elegant bridge with three arches is built with a unique architecture.

Tushemishti / Driloni

The springs of Drilon are located near the village of Tushemisht and Gurras, 4 km from Pogradec, at the foot of the hills and have an incomparable view. You can visit this natural monument if you follow the road Pogradec-Doganë-Shën Naum. It is a large limestone spring that originates with a vertical flow of water at the bottom of the limestone block and then continues to flow into Lake Ohrid. The water comes from Prespa Lake through Dry Mountain. The water comes out as a large source with a flow of 7 m3/sec. It is surrounded by dense vegetation and has a rich animal world. This place was preferred by King Zog and Enver Hoxha to spend their holidays. You can visit his house, which has now been converted into a hotel and restaurant.

Potkozhan

Potkozhani is a very interesting village in the Pogradec region. The houses are very beautiful, made of stone and covered with tiles. The streets between them are narrow and paved with cobblestones, while pergolas and mulberry trees cover the walls and hang over the alleys. The hospitable villagers offer accommodation to tourists in their houses and traditional food with various local specialties. In the middle of the village is the Church of Saint Friday with the old cemetery that has stone crosses carved with great skill.

Church of St. Bitr

The medieval church of Saint Dhimtri, which the locals are used to calling the church of Saint Bitri, is located a few hundred meters from the village of Potkozhan. This small stone building, covered with tiles, is of unique value in terms of the two small domes on the east side and the very special wall painted with frescoes in its interior. Although the frescoes are damaged, visitors can still admire the mystery and beauty of the saints painted on its walls.

Egnatia Street

In the territory of the Pogradec region, there are several branches of the Egnatia Road, the famous road that in antiquity connected Rome with Constantinople. There are several bridges and fragments of this ancient road starting from the Golik bridge, the Terziu bridge in Proptisht, the bridge in the Llënga valley and the Nice bridge. The road is distinguished by the large stones that we find in the mouth of Llënga, near the valley of the Shkumbin River. Caesar and the Apostle Paul once passed through this road on his journey through Illyria. On the shores of Ohrid, the deepest lake of the Balkan peninsula, Pogradec and Tushemishti are among the main tourist spots, which are also the stops of our next trip. There are about 30 hotels in these two countries, most of them in Pogradec. In the city, prices for double rooms generally range from 2000-5000 ALL per night, including breakfast. A good part of them are along the shore of the lake. The beaches are sandy and a tent with two sunbeds costs depending on the country, mainly from 200-400 lek in private ones, where boat trips are also offered. Others are free. Visit Pogradec! Enjoy the rare natural beauty from the height of the mountains to the crystal waters of the lake. The hospitality of Pogradec residents harmonizes with nature and the wonderful environment that will leave an impression.
