The sarcophagus of an Egyptian priest dating back more than 2500 years was revealed live on Sunday evening during a show on the American channel “Discovery”.

It was through artificial light that the Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass and his men opened, surrounded by cameras, three sarcophagi, one of which was located on the surface of the tomb and the other at the end of a gallery.

But they delayed longer with the third, much larger and more sophisticated, bearing the corpse of the great priest of the god Thoth, which was very current during the 26th Dynasty (664-525 BC).

“This man was like a king,” says Zahi Hawass, after seeing the quality of the embalming and bandages that were intact, unlike the first two mummies.

Thoti was often depicted in the form of an ibis bird and symbolized mainly wisdom and magic.
