A newborn planet is discovered

An international team of astronomers has discovered one of the youngest exoplanets ever found. The “newborn” planet moves around a distant star “Baby” in the Demi Cloud and the discovery was made with the telescope of the KEK Observatory in Hawaii. Thousands of exoplanets have been discovered to date, but what sets this planet apart, named 2M0437b, is that it is very young and can also be seen directly from Earth.
Astronomers were able to photograph it with the Subaru Telescope on Mount Maunakea in Hawaii.

The exoplanet is estimated to have a mass several times that of Jupiter and was formed along with its parent star several million years ago, around the time the main Hawaiian islands emerged from the ocean. The planet is so young that it is still hot from the energy released during its creation, having a temperature similar to the lava poured from the Kilauea volcano, reports abcnews.al.

The distance from the star is about 100 times the Earth-Sun distance. Future observations with the launch of the large American James Webb Space Telescope, Hubble’s successor, will shed more light on whether the planet has an atmosphere and what kind.
