The prominent Albanian historian from Peja, prof. Dr. Jahja Drançolli has published a rare and old letter, exactly 568 years old, signed by Gjergje Kastrioti – Skënderbeu himself.
Drançolli has also given the explanation of the autograph letter, which Skenderbeu sent to the Bounty of the Republic of Siena in Italy.
Full post:
“568 years ago (August 8, 1451): Rare autograph letter of Skanderbeg sent to the Bounty of the Republic of Siena in Italy…!
The autograph letter in question is known for being one of 10 autograph letters (signed) by Skenderbeu’s own hand, which were preserved in well-known archives of the world (Rome, Venice, Milan, Naples, Paris, Dubrovnik, Zagreb and Belgrade). This autograph letter, written in the humanistic script of the time in Latin and Italian, is a short fragment from a major story.
This precious document sent by Lazri, the abbot of Arbri, was written on an ordinary cotton card of the time, and as can be seen from the facsimile, on both sides of the sheet (folio) the signs of the seal (sigillum) of Skanderbeg were preserved, which bears the date, August 8, 1451, while it fell into the hands of the Bounty of the Republic of Siena on September 13, 1451…! Source: Archivio di Stato di Siena.” – writes Drançolli.
