Harvard: Fish consumption, live longer

Read Time:1 Minute, 7 Second

All those over 65 who consume fish can live 2 years longer than those who do not consume omega-3 fatty acids, the latter found mainly in seafood.

The latest study conducted by Harvard scientists has reached these conclusions. This study has shown that all those people who have high levels of omega-3 fatty acids are less at risk of sudden death. But the risk of heart diseases is also reduced by 35%. To reach these conclusions, scientists have analyzed in detail 2700 people over 65 years old. This study has proven that people who have a high level of omega-3 fatty acids in their blood are at less risk of death which can be caused by health complications.

It has also been proven that these people lived 2.3 years longer than other people. It took 16 years for these results, as the first people in the study were taken 16 years ago. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in fish such as salmon, sardines, herring, etc.

“The results of our research show that it is really important to consume omega-3 fatty acids, due to the preservation of the cardiovascular system”, said the author of the study Driush Mozaffarian, associate professor in the department of epidemiology at Harvard.

This study was published in the journal “Annals of Internal Medicine”.
