The “Fiat” related to the accident of Princess Diana still a mystery that can be solved… French detectives disappointed by the authorities
French investigators have expressed disappointment at the failure of authorities to find the white Fiat Uno that may have been involved in the car crash that killed Diana, Princess of Wales, 25 years ago.
Diana was 36 when she was killed in a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997, with her partner, Dodi Fayed, the son of Mohamed Al Fayed, the former owner of Harrods.
According to witnesses, a small white car was close to the Mercedes in which Diana was traveling before it crashed. Investigators believe the two cars collided at high speed before the Mercedes ended up on a pole in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel.
French detectives in 1997 told a Channel 4 documentary that the driver could have shed light on the Mercedes’ movements moments before the crash.
“The whole world has struggled to accept that Diana died in an ordinary accident. I have disappointment about the ‘Fiat Uno’…”, said one of the detectives.
Investigators said a couple saw a white Fiat Uno leaving the tunnel. Her driver was focused in his mirrors, a black man with short hair. There was also a dog in the car”, he said further.
Ten years after the crash, a £4.5million inquest found Diana was killed in the crash and that the Mercedes driver, Henry Paul, was drunk and speeding as the vehicle was being chased by paparazzi. According to experts, Diana and Dodi could have survived if they had worn seat belts./The Times
