USA, 60 years since the first flight into orbit
USA marked yesterday the 60th anniversary of the first American flight into orbit. On February 20, 1962, astronaut John Glenn launched the Atlas probe from Cape Canaveral into Earth orbit. His flight came almost a year after Soviet astronaut Yuri Gagarin’s flight, which was the first manned mission into space. Glenn flew into space again in 1998, when he was 77 years old, becoming the world’s oldest person to fly to orbit.
